De Ouweklok Wedding

Deidre & Charl Cyster | De Ouweklok Wedding

“You don’t marry the person you can live with, you marry the person you can’t live without.”

Deidre and Charl’s De Ouweklok Wedding was proof that a wedding doesn’t need a huge guest list to be incredibly special. Their wedding took place during Level 1 COVID restrictions which meant celebrations looked very different from the weddings we were used to. But rather than allowing the restrictions to take away from their day, Deidre and Charl embraced the intimacy of it and went all out with the details.

There were personalised gifts, emotional letters, beautiful stationery, carefully chosen outfits and plenty of little surprises throughout the morning. Their small bridal party was made up of just the people closest to them and I could immediately see why each person had been chosen.

It was a beautiful, intimate De Ouweklok Wedding day filled with personality and so many thoughtful details that made this De Ouweklok Wedding completely their own.

An Intimate De Ouweklok Wedding During Level 1 Restrictions

Photographing weddings during COVID restrictions was certainly different. Guest lists were smaller, celebrations were more intimate and couples had to work around rules that could change the way they had originally imagined their wedding day.

Deidre and Charl didn’t let that stop them from making their De Ouweklok wedding special.

If anything, the smaller celebration made the day feel incredibly personal. There were only a few guests and each person there was clearly someone who mattered deeply to them.

The ceremony took place outside beneath the open sky and surrounding trees which made the setting feel even more intimate. Instead of a large crowd, there were the people who were closest to Deidre and Charl there to witness them become husband and wife at De Ouweklok Wedding venue.

Sometimes a smaller wedding means you get to see more of the relationships that matter most and that was definitely the case here.

The Morning Started with Some Very Personal Gifts

One of my favourite things about this De Ouweklok Wedding was how much thought Deidre and Charl put into the morning before the ceremony.

The best man received a full box of goodies with things like socks, a shirt, sunglasses and other little items.

Charl also received a special box from his soon-to-be wife. Inside was a letter that he could read before the wedding along with thoughtful little items including sugar, tissues for those happy tears and socks that proudly said “Fuck yeah I’m getting married.”

It was such a fun combination of sentimental and cheeky and felt completely suited to the couple.

Even the shoes had a little surprise.

Under Deidre’s shoes were stickers saying “I do” while Charl’s shoes had “Me too.”

These are exactly the kinds of details I love photographing because they are so personal. They might seem like small things but years from now they are the details that can bring back memories of how excited and happy everyone was that morning.

A Special Gift for Mom

Deidre didn’t forget her mom either.

She had a personalised gift prepared for her with a beautiful message:

“Mom, to dry your tears as you have always dried mine. Today a bride, tomorrow a wife, forever your little girl. Love always.”

There is something so special about gifts like this because they tell another part of the wedding story.

A wedding isn’t only about the bride and groom. It is also about the people who have been there throughout their lives and who are watching them start a new chapter.

Capturing the gift itself was important but so was knowing the meaning behind it.

The Bride and Groom’s Blue and Pink Wedding Style

Deidre’s bridal look was beautiful and elegant. Her dress was from Bridezar and she paired it with rose gold shoes and jewellery which fitted perfectly with the colour palette of the day.

Her bouquet featured white and pink roses with greenery which added a soft romantic touch to her bridal look.

Charl wore a blue suit with a pink tie while his best man wore a matching blue suit with a pink bow tie.

With such a small bridal party, the colours were really noticeable and the combination of blue, pink and rose gold worked beautifully together at De Ouweklok Wedding Venue.

The wedding stationery followed the same overall style which made all the details feel connected.

There is something I really enjoy about photographing weddings where couples have carried a colour palette through all the little details. It means that when you look back at the gallery there is a visual thread running through the entire day.

A Maid of Honour Chosen for a Reason

Deidre’s maid of honour wore a beautiful blue dress and she also received her own personalised gift.

Her gift included a glass with her name on it, champagne and some other little treats to make her feel special.

What stood out to me about the bridal party was how small it was.

Deidre chose one person and Charl chose one person.

And honestly, I could see that these weren’t just people standing beside them because they needed a maid of honour and a best man.

These were their people.

The ones who know everything. The ones who have been there. The ones you call when something happens and you need someone who already understands without having to explain everything.

That made the bridal party photographs feel particularly meaningful.

An Outdoor Ceremony Under the Trees at De Ouweklok Wedding venue

The ceremony was absolutely beautiful.

It took place outside under the open sky and surrounded by trees which created a naturally intimate setting at De Ouweklok Wedding venue.

With only a small number of guests, the ceremony felt incredibly personal. There was no need for a huge production because the focus was simply on Deidre and Charl and the people who had gathered to witness their marriage.

The natural surroundings also gave the ceremony photographs a lovely softness.

For me, De Ouweklok wedding photography was all about capturing that sense of intimacy. Rather than trying to make the wedding look bigger than it was, I wanted the photographs to show exactly what made this day special.

It was small. It was personal. And it was filled with meaning.

Elegant Pink and Rose Gold Décor

The reception décor at De Ouweklok Wedding venue followed the pink and rose gold colour palette.

There wasn’t an overwhelming amount of décor and I think that worked beautifully. There was just enough to create an elegant atmosphere without taking away from the natural setting.

The stationery was also beautifully coordinated and brought the whole look together.

This was one of those weddings where the couple clearly understood that they didn’t need to fill every available space with decorations. The right details in the right places were enough.

The result was elegant, romantic and perfectly suited to their intimate celebration at De Ouweklok Wedding venue.

A Harvest Table Filled with Treats

Before and around the meal there were plenty of delicious little treats.

The harvest table and canapés included pastries, vegetables and cookies with cheese as well as other sweet treats.

There was something lovely about having these smaller bites available because it suited the relaxed and intimate atmosphere of the wedding.

And, of course, there was plenty more to come when it was time for dessert.

A Two-Tier Cake with Pink Roses

The wedding cake was a beautiful two-tier design with a soft grey and teal colour combination.

Pink roses came down the sides of the cake while rose gold details tied it into the rest of the wedding styling.

It was another example of how well the colours worked together.

The soft pink roses against the grey and teal cake gave it a romantic look without being overly traditional and the rose gold details connected it back to Deidre’s shoes, jewellery and the reception styling.

And because one dessert is never quite enough at a wedding, there were also macarons and cheesecake to enjoy.

A Small Bridal Party with Big Personalities

One of the things I loved most about this De Ouweklok Wedding was photographing the small bridal party.

There were only two people standing beside the couple but they brought plenty of personality to the photographs.

We had so much fun together and because each of them had chosen only one person to stand beside them it made the photographs feel particularly meaningful.

There wasn’t a large group to organise or dozens of people trying to figure out where to stand.

It was simply four people who clearly knew and cared about each other.

And that made the photographs feel natural.

Then We Found Some Unexpected Wedding Guests

And then came one of my favourite unexpected moments of the day.

We spotted some horses and donkeys behind a fence and naturally, they were curious about what we were doing.

They started coming closer to see what was happening. So we had to move quickly. We jumped into position and managed to grab some photographs with them before they wandered off again.

This is one of those moments that you simply cannot plan for. You can organise a wedding timeline, schedule your couple portraits and plan your group photographs but you cannot schedule a curious donkey to wander into the background.

And honestly, those unexpected moments are some of my favourite photographs to capture. They make the gallery feel like a genuine record of the day rather than a perfectly controlled photoshoot.

De Ouweklok Wedding Photography That Feels Personal

When I look back at Deidre and Charl’s wedding there are so many little things that stand out.

The personalised gifts. Charl reading the letter from his bride-to-be. The funny socks. The messages underneath their shoes. The beautiful gift for Deidre’s mom. The maid of honour’s personalised glass. The blue suits and pink ties. The white and pink roses. The rose gold details. The intimate outdoor ceremony. The little group of people who mattered most. The curious horses and donkeys. The laughter during the bridal party photographs. All of these details tell a story. And that is what I love about wedding photography.

It isn’t just about photographing the dress, the rings, the cake and the venue. It is about photographing all the little things that make a particular wedding belong to a particular couple.

Deidre and Charl’s wedding could never be mistaken for anyone else’s because so much of it reflected who they were and the people they love.

A Wedding That Made the Most of the Moment | farm wedding photography

COVID changed the way so many couples experienced their weddings. Restrictions meant smaller guest lists and intimate wedding photography celebrations became the norm for many couples during that period.

But Deidre and Charl showed that a smaller De Ouweklok Wedding could still be filled with personality, emotion and beautiful details.

Their De Ouweklok Wedding wasn’t about having hundreds of people there.

It was about having the right people.

It wasn’t about filling the venue with endless décor.

It was about choosing the details that mattered.

It wasn’t about having a huge bridal party.

It was about having the one person each of them trusted completely.

And that made the day feel incredibly genuine.

Deidre and Charl’s wedding was intimate, romantic and full of thoughtful details.

From the personalised gifts they exchanged before the ceremony to the emotional message for Deidre’s mom, every part of the morning had meaning. The pink and rose gold styling, beautiful flowers and coordinated stationery created an elegant setting while the blue suits and pink accessories gave the bridal party its own personality.

The outdoor ceremony beneath the trees was beautiful and intimate and the small bridal party made the photographs feel especially personal.

Then there were the unexpected moments, including our quick photo opportunity with the curious horses and donkeys.

That is what made this De Ouweklok Wedding so memorable for me. It wasn’t simply beautiful. It felt like them.
